Congratulations to the Japanese women’s national football (soccer) team, なでしこジャパン, for taking the spotlight at the FIFA World Cup 2011! They played extremely well throughout the entire tournament, surprisingly upsetting the German team and making it to the final round.
The final match was Japan VS USA and truly an intense and spectacular match. Towards the end of the second half, the first goal was scored by team USA, however Miyama Aya tied the score to launch the game into extra time. During the extra time, Abby Wambach scored a second goal for the US but the Japanese ladies kept on fighting and team captain, Sawa Homare, tied the game again, prompting the penalty kicks.
Kaihori Ayumi, Japan’s goalkeeper did an excellent job the entire game and really shined during the penalty kicks, blocking two US attempts and allowing teammate Kumagai Saki to earn the last point needed to win the game for Japan.
Congratulations to both teams for one of the most exciting and suspenseful World Cup final matches!
